Convicted Killer Derek ‘Del Boy’ Hutch Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison for Dangerous Driving Crash

Dublin, October 29, 2025 — Convicted killer and armed robber Derek “Del Boy” Hutch, who now identifies as Derek Moore, faces up to 10 years in prison after admitting to causing serious injuries to a woman in a road accident in central Dublin.

Hutch, 42, appeared before the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm, along with three additional offences — driving under the influence of an intoxicant and two separate counts of dangerous driving.

The offences occurred on May 27, 2022, in Dublin city centre.

Serious Road Incident Involving Ukrainian Woman

Prosecutors said Hutch struck 64-year-old Ukrainian refugee Velentyna Linok while riding a motorcycle near Connolly Station on Amiens Street. The victim sustained serious injuries in the collision.

Witnesses reported that Hutch initially appeared unaware of the victim’s identity, telling passers-by, “He just ran out in front of me.”

Following an investigation by Gardaí, Hutch, with an address on Champions Avenue, was charged in October 2022. The case was later transferred from the District Court to the Circuit Criminal Court, which holds greater sentencing authority.

He has been remanded on bail and will return for sentencing before Judge Martin Nolan on December 12.

The most serious charge — dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm — carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine, while the additional charges each carry penalties of up to six months in jail.

Criminal Background and Kinahan Feud Connection

Hutch, a nephew of Gerry “The Monk” Hutch, has a long criminal history that includes convictions for manslaughter, armed robbery, and firearms possession.

He had been released from Wheatfield Prison in July 2021, just ten months before the road crash, after completing a sentence for manslaughter and a 2009 armed robbery in Lucan, west Dublin, during which one of his accomplices was fatally shot by an undercover detective.

In 2009, Hutch was also arrested with a firearm and silencer in Dublin city centre.

Survived Two Prison Attacks

During his incarceration, Hutch survived two separate assassination attempts linked to the long-running feud between the Kinahan and Hutch criminal networks.

The feud, which began after the murder of Hutch’s brother Gary Hutch by the Kinahan cartel in Spain in September 2015, has claimed at least 18 lives.

Just days after being granted temporary release from prison to attend his brother’s funeral, Hutch was attacked by fellow inmates in Mountjoy Prison’s A yard. He suffered a stab wound to his arm, but was rescued by unarmed prison officers who intervened to stop the assault.

Two months later, in December 2015, Hutch was attacked again inside his cell by another inmate wielding a homemade knife. He sustained defensive wounds to his arms before two prisoners intervened and subdued the attacker.

Following the incidents, Hutch was transferred to Wheatfield Prison for his safety, where he remained until his release in 2021.

Now, the convicted killer once again finds himself before the courts — this time for an offence that could see him return to prison for up to a decade.
