Chennai: The Chennai Principal Sessions Court has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a response to a petition seeking the adjournment of witness hearings in a high-profile illegal money transaction case linked to former minister Senthil Balaji.
The case, currently under trial in a special court in Chennai, involves allegations of fraud in the transport sector, where jobs were promised and duplicitously obtained. Based on this investigation, the ED has filed cases against former minister Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar for alleged illegal money laundering.
In the ongoing trial, witness testimonies are being recorded. In this context, Balaji’s aide, Kartikeyan, along with another individual, filed a petition requesting that the witness hearings in the special court be postponed until the conclusion of the ED’s proceedings.
During the hearing before Judge S. Kartikeyan of the Principal Sessions Court, Balaji and nine other accused appeared in person. However, Ashok Kumar was absent. The petition requested additional time for the ED to respond regarding the adjournment of witness statements.
The court granted the ED time to file its response and adjourned the case for further hearing to October 27.
