Cavan: A woman in her 80s has died following a two-car collision in Carrickatober near Crosskeys, County Cavan, on Tuesday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on a local road, prompting an immediate response from Gardaí and emergency services.
The elderly woman, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been taken to the morgue at Cavan General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The other driver, a woman in her 40s, was transported to Cavan General Hospital for medical assessment.
The road was temporarily closed to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a detailed examination. The investigation at the scene has since concluded, and the road has now been reopened to traffic.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said:
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident near Crosskeys, Co. Cavan, this afternoon, Tuesday, 7 October.”
Authorities are now appealing for witnesses and have urged any motorists who were in the area between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and who may have dash-cam or camera footage to come forward.
