Hamas Rejects Trump’s Peace Plan, Vows to Resume Fighting if War with Israel Restarts

Gaza City, Oct. 12 — A senior Hamas official has declared that the Palestinian militant group will resume armed resistance if the war with Israel restarts and will not sign the peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Hossam Badran, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, told AFP that the group rejects any proposal requiring it to surrender control of Palestinian territories or disarm under Trump’s 20-point peace initiative. “We are dealing primarily through Qatari and Egyptian mediators,” Badran said. “As for the matter of an official signing — we will not be involved.”

When asked whether Hamas intends to retain its weapons, Badran insisted they are “the weapons of the entire Palestinian people.” He added, “Weapons in the Palestinian case are a natural part of our history, our present, and our future.”

Under the first phase of Trump’s peace plan, Hamas is expected to release Israeli hostages held in Gaza beginning Monday morning, ahead of an international summit in Egypt chaired by President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. In return, Israel will reportedly free nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including women and minors.

The summit, to be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, will bring together leaders from more than 20 countries. Confirmed attendees include UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

There has been no official confirmation on whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attend. Hamas has indicated that it will not participate directly in the talks, saying it continues to operate through Qatari and Egyptian mediation channels.

Addressing reports of potential expulsion of Hamas leaders from Gaza, Badran dismissed the notion as “absurd.” He asserted, “The Hamas leaders present in the Gaza Strip are on their own land — the land where they have lived for many years among their families and their people. Any talk of expelling Palestinians, whether they are Hamas members or not, from their land is nonsense.”

The statements come amid renewed diplomatic efforts to broker stability in the region, though Hamas’s firm stance underscores the deep challenges ahead for Trump’s peace initiative.
