Hyderabad, October 4 – Telangana’s capital city, Hyderabad, has received its first Tesla car, marking a milestone in the state’s growing adoption of electric vehicles. The car was brought to the city by Dr. Praveen Kodoor, an advanced laparoscopic and laser surgeon at the Sreenandaka Advanced Surgery Centre in Kompally.
Dr. Kodoor purchased the vehicle from Tesla’s Mumbai showroom, as the company currently has outlets only in Mumbai and New Delhi. He drove the car from Mumbai to Hyderabad on September 27, covering nearly 770 kilometers, with charging stops at Pune and Solapur along the way.
With this purchase, Dr. Kodoor has become the first Tesla owner in Telangana and the sixth in India. However, since the vehicle was purchased in another state, he was subjected to an additional 22 percent tax, significantly increasing the overall cost. While the car’s base price was estimated at ₹63 lakh, the added tax raised the total considerably.
“It feels incredible to be the first person from Hyderabad to own a Tesla,” Dr. Kodoor said. “Many more people will follow, as Tesla remains one of the most advanced electric vehicles in the world. If a Tesla showroom is established in Hyderabad, owners will benefit from Telangana’s EV policy, which offers road tax exemptions. Unfortunately, buying it from another state meant paying heavy taxes.”
Dr. Kodoor also noted that another Hyderabad-based company has booked a Tesla, but he remains the first to take delivery in the city.
Tesla, the American electric vehicle and clean energy company, is globally renowned for its innovation. Founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, the company produces electric cars such as the Tesla Roadster, Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, all of which are celebrated for their cutting-edge technology, high performance, and long-range capabilities.
