New Delhi, Oct. 7: The Indian Army paid a special tribute to veteran actor Mohanlal on Monday, celebrating both his recent Dadasaheb Phalke Award and his 16 years of service in the Territorial Army.
The acclaimed Malayalam actor received the honour directly from the Chief of the Indian Army, marking a proud moment in his long association with the armed forces. Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Mohanlal expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on his journey in uniform.
“It was a wonderful meeting. I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Chief of the Indian Army. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award made the occasion even more special. It has been 16 years since I joined the Territorial Army, and during this period, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to many known and unknown initiatives. There are several more plans ahead — it will take time, but I intend to continue encouraging the younger generation to join the armed forces,” Mohanlal said.
Mohanlal was commissioned into the Territorial Army in 2009, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He serves with the 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Madras, a unit known for its commitment and discipline.
The actor’s dual legacy — as one of India’s most celebrated film icons and as a dedicated member of the armed forces — continues to inspire millions. The Army’s gesture on Monday symbolized not just institutional appreciation, but also the enduring bond between art, patriotism, and public service.
