Indian Student from Hyderabad Shot Dead in Texas, Family Seeks Government Assistance

Hyderabad/Dallas, October 4 – In a tragic incident in the United States, an Indian student was fatally shot while working at a gas station in Dallas, Texas, late last night.

The victim, identified as Chandrashekar Pole, a native of Hyderabad and a student at the University of North Texas, was attacked by unidentified assailants while on duty. Preliminary reports suggest that the shooter was of African-American origin, though an official confirmation is awaited.

Pole had moved to the United States in 2023 after completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in Hyderabad. He earned his master’s degree six months ago and had been actively seeking full-time employment while working part-time at the gas station.

The news has left his family in deep grief. They have appealed to both the Indian and Telangana governments to extend immediate assistance in repatriating his mortal remains.

Senior leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), including MLA Sudhir Reddy and former Telangana Minister T. Harish Rao, visited the bereaved family to express condolences.

“It is tragic that Chandra Shekar Pole, a Dalit student from LB Nagar, who went to Dallas to pursue higher education after completing BDS, lost his life in a senseless act of violence,” Harish Rao said. He urged the state government to take swift measures to ensure the return of Pole’s body to Hyderabad.

“The anguish of parents who sent their son abroad with dreams of a brighter future, only to face such devastating news, is heart-wrenching,” he added. “On behalf of the BRS, we demand immediate government intervention to bring back his mortal remains without delay.”

This tragedy comes close on the heels of another shocking case involving Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old man from Telangana, who was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, on September 3, following an alleged altercation with his roommate.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that it is in close contact with U.S. authorities as well as the families of both victims. The MEA assured that every possible measure would be taken to facilitate the repatriation process.
