Jharkhand: Man Brutally Murdered in Dhanbad Over Love Dispute; Police Face Resistance from Locals

A shocking murder has been reported from Hariharpur village under the Hariharpur Police Station limits in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, where a man identified as Kapil Kumar Rai (32) was found brutally killed following a suspected case of love-related despair.

According to reports, Kapil was missing since Thursday night. His body was later discovered inside the house of his lover’s family. The primary accused, Ganga Thakur, a retired railway employee and mother of Kapil’s girlfriend, has been arrested on charges of murder.

Police said the body bore multiple stab wounds and deep gashes on the neck and back, suggesting the victim was attacked with a sharp weapon before being strangled to death. Kapil’s hands and legs were found tied when the body was recovered. Officers believe the murder was carried out by more than one person, given the nature of the injuries and the condition of the crime scene.

During the search, police recovered a blood-stained sword and other sharp weapons from the house. However, when officers attempted to retrieve the body, they faced strong resistance from villagers, who later set fire to the accused’s motorcycle in protest.

Kapil was married and had a six-month-old son. His family, who had been searching for him, were informed by a child that he had last been seen entering Ganga Thakur’s residence. Locals then forced their way into the house and found his blood-soaked body, prompting them to alert the police.

By Friday afternoon, police arrived at the scene, arrested Ganga Thakur, and began the inquest. However, tensions escalated quickly as a large mob gathered, demanding the arrest of all involved. The unrest continued from 2:30 PM until about 9:30 PM, with police struggling to control the situation.

Local leaders, including MLA representative Jagdish Choudhary, Hariharpur head Irfan Ansari, Panchayat Samiti member Shankar Pandey, and Motilal Mahato from Jamram Mahato’s team, intervened to pacify the crowd.

Following the restoration of order, the police sent the body to Dhanbad Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the brutal killing, while security has been tightened in the area to prevent further unrest.
