Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal Named in Police Case Over Employee’s Death

Bengaluru: Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has been named in a police case of abetment to suicide, following the death of an employee who allegedly took his own life, leaving behind a 28-page handwritten note detailing workplace harassment and mental distress.

The First Information Report (FIR), registered at the Subramanyapura Police Station in Bengaluru, also names Subrata Kumar Das, Ola’s Head of Vehicle Homologation and Regulation, along with Ola Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd. The case was filed after the deceased employee’s brother, Ashwin Kannan, lodged a formal complaint.

According to police sources, the deceased—identified as Aravind—allegedly accused his superiors, including Das and Aggarwal, of harassment, undue work pressure, non-payment of salary and dues, and mental torture. In his note, Aravind reportedly stated that these factors had driven him to end his life.

Based on the contents of the note, police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3(5).

Ola’s Response

In an official statement issued on Monday, Ola confirmed that it has challenged the FIR in the Karnataka High Court, which has granted interim protective relief in favour of the company.

The company stated that Aravind never raised any grievance during his tenure and had no direct interaction with senior management, including the CEO.

“During his tenure, Aravind never raised any complaint or grievance regarding his employment or any harassment. His role also did not involve any direct interaction with the company’s top management, including the promoter,” Ola said in its statement.

Ola added that it has settled all pending dues and facilitated the full and final payment to Aravind’s bank account to support the family.

“Ola Electric is fully cooperating with the authorities in their ongoing investigation and remains committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace for all employees,” the company added.

The police investigation is currently underway, and further action will depend on forensic and testimonial evidence gathered in the case.
