Rajinikanth’s Political Detachment and Vijay’s Chief Ministerial Ambition: Thirumavalavan’s Sharp Remarks

Actor Rajinikanth has kept himself away from politics, stating that he has no desire for power or position.

However, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan remarked that actor Vijay’s political activities are driven by his strong ambition to become Chief Minister. “Unlike Rajinikanth, Vijay’s political interest stems from his deep desire for the Chief Minister’s post. That is why his politics are directed primarily against the DMK,” Thirumavalavan said.

The recent stampede at a Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives, has sent shockwaves through Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Following the tragedy, reports emerged that BJP executives have extended their support to TVK. A group of Members of Parliament also visited Karur to assess the situation, and TVK’s key executive, Adhav Arjun, is reportedly scheduled to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

In this backdrop, Thirumavalavan expressed concern over Vijay’s response to the incident. “Vijay does not appear genuinely affected by the Karur tragedy that claimed 41 lives. His tone and demeanor lack the gravity one would expect in such a sorrowful moment. It seems he is attempting to use the situation for political gain,” Thirumavalavan told reporters.

He further added, “If Vijay was unable to visit the site immediately, that is understandable. But he could have offered condolences the next day from his office or personally visited the families of the victims. Instead, he released a video message three days later — and that too only after pressure from BJP-RSS factions. This reveals his true intentions.”

Thirumavalavan accused Vijay of being motivated by anti-DMK sentiments, saying, “His political moves appear to be guided by the RSS and its affiliates. When similar pressure was exerted on Rajinikanth, he chose not to enter politics because he was not power-hungry. Vijay, on the other hand, seems obsessed with the Chief Minister’s chair.”

Speaking about the Karur incident, he clarified, “The people present at the meeting were TVK supporters who had waited patiently for seven hours. There was no violence — the tragedy occurred after someone accidentally tripped and fell. However, the incident is being misrepresented for political mileage, and there has been no sincere expression of sympathy for the victims from Vijay or his party.”
