Rohtak, Haryana:Following the recent explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, police in Haryana have intensified search operations across the state. As part of these heightened security measures, Rohtak police on Tuesday seized ₹1 crore in cash from a car during a routine vehicle inspection.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Surender Singh Bhoria, “District police have been on high alert since the Delhi blast. Multiple checkpoints have been set up, and vehicles are being thoroughly inspected at various locations.”
The seizure took place under the Jalebi Chowk flyover, where a team led by Shivaji Colony Police Station in-charge Rakesh Saini was conducting checks. The police intercepted a vehicle traveling from Jhajjar towards Rohtak. Upon inspection, they found bundles of ₹500 and ₹100 notes stuffed inside backpacks belonging to two of the four young men in the car.
“The total amount was confirmed to be ₹1 crore,” an official said. The individuals were unable to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the source or purpose of the money. All four men — identified as Ravi, Sunil, Pramod, and Amit — are residents of Delhi and Rohtak. They were immediately taken into custody for questioning.
SP Bhoria confirmed that, in compliance with court orders, the seized cash has been deposited in the Rohtak Treasury. “The Income Tax Department has been informed, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the origin of the funds,” he added.
The SP also stated that, in the wake of the Delhi bombing, authorities have been thoroughly checking suspicious materials and conducting inspections at hotels, lodges, and dharamshalas in the district.
Preliminary reports suggest that the four detained individuals had links to both Delhi and Rohtak, but their motives remain unclear. Police are probing whether the cash has any connection to recent extremist or criminal activities in the region.
