An intense encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Tuesday, November 18, with intermittent gunfire continuing from the dense forest areas under the Errabore police station limits.
The gun battle erupted around 6 a.m. in the forest region near Marud Palli, located along the Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh border in the West Godavari district. According to initial inputs, top Maoist leader Hidma is believed to have been killed in the exchange, though his body is yet to be formally identified. Security forces have so far recovered six bodies of Naxalites following the fierce firefight in the forested terrain where Maoist cadres were reportedly camping.
Chhattisgarh Police confirmed that Hidma’s wife, Rajee, was among those killed during the clash.
Officials said the encounter began after security teams launched a coordinated early-morning combing operation based on credible intelligence indicating the presence of Maoist operatives in the region. As forces advanced deeper into the forest, Naxalites opened fire, triggering a heavy retaliatory response. The operation remains ongoing, with additional reinforcements placed on standby.
Sukma continues to be one of the most sensitive districts in the Maoist insurgency belt, and security has been intensified as forces attempt to neutralise armed groups entrenched in the area. Police officials have stated that casualty figures may be updated as the operation progresses
