Malappuram:The vehicle, owned by Manjeri native Dr Kajal Haq, who works at a clinic in Chekanoor, was carrying the doctor and three staff members at the time of the incident. While travelling towards Edappal, the occupants noticed smoke rising from the front of the car near the Muthur Union Office and immediately stopped the vehicle.
Moments later, the car went up in flames. Local residents attempted to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful. Fire and rescue personnel from Ponnani later arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control. The car was completely gutted in the incident. Passengers escaped unhurt after a car caught fire near Edappal around 1 am on Thursday. The vehicle, owned by Manjeri native Dr Kajal Haq and used by clinic staff from Chekanoor, went up in flames despite locals’ efforts.
