US strikes 70 Islamic State targets in Syria; Jordan offers assistance
The US has carried out a series of airstrikes on Islamic State (IS) targets in Syria in retaliation for the killing of three Americans by the Islamic State. The strikes targeted 70 IS targets. The US has named the mission 'Operation Hockey Strike'. This is in retaliation for the killing of two US soldiers and an American interpreter by ISIS terrorists in Palmyra, Syria, a week ago.
Operation Strike aims to destroy ISIS terrorists, weapons depots and operational centers. ISIS infrastructure, weapons storage centers and camps across central Syria have been destroyed. Several ISIS terrorists have also been killed in the attack.
The United States carried out the attack on Syria with the help of Jordan. Several of the United States' most advanced warplanes, as well as warplanes and artillery from Jordan, were used in the attack.
The attack was carried out using US military F-15 Eagle jets, A-10 Thunderbolt ground attack aircraft and AH-64 Apache helicopters, officials said. Jordanian F-16 fighter jets and HIMARS rocket launchers were also used in the attack.
