Mumbai / Baramati, January 28, 2026 A chartered aircraft carrying Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crash-landed on Wednesday morning while attempting to land at Baramati Airport in western Maharashtra, according to multiple media reports.
Injuries Reported, Condition Awaited
Preliminary reports indicate that Mr. Pawar and other passengers on board sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the nature or severity of the injuries from Mr. Pawar’s office or state authorities.
The deputy chief minister was reportedly travelling with at least three other passengers. Fire and rescue services, along with medical teams, reached the scene promptly, providing first aid before transferring the injured for further care.
Probe Likely as Authorities Remain Silent
As of now, no formal statement has been issued by the Maharashtra government, Ajit Pawar’s office, or the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Aviation officials are expected to initiate a detailed investigation into the incident, including an examination of the aircraft’s technical condition, pilot communication, runway status, and possible weather-related factors.
Local aviation sources said further clarity would emerge once preliminary findings are available.
Political Engagements Ahead of Elections
Mr. Pawar had attended a Cabinet meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday and was believed to be travelling to Baramati for a series of political engagements linked to upcoming civic elections.
Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation progresses, while updates on the condition of Mr. Pawar and other passengers are awaited.
