New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over its stance on ‘Operation Sindoor’, accusing the opposition party of undermining national security.
The BJP alleged that Aiyar’s remarks reflected the Congress’s long-standing “soft approach” towards Pakistan and posed a threat to India’s security interests. According to the ruling party, prioritising diplomatic engagement over decisive military measures in the aftermath of the operation sends the “wrong signal” at a sensitive time.
Controversial Remarks
In the video, Aiyar is seen suggesting that India should resume talks with Pakistan to ease bilateral tensions following Operation Sindoor. The comments have provided fresh ammunition for the BJP, which has repeatedly accused the Congress of adopting a conciliatory posture towards Islamabad despite cross-border security threats.

BJP’s Sharp Response
Reacting strongly, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of consistently siding with Pakistan and weakening India’s fight against terrorism. He alleged that instead of holding Pakistan accountable for terrorism, the Congress was attempting to give Islamabad a “clean chit”.
In a scathing political jibe, Poonawalla referred to the Congress as the “Islamabad National Congress,” claiming that calls to scale back Operation Sindoor were in line with the party’s historical position.
Allegations of Disrespect to Armed Forces
The BJP further accused the Congress of insulting the Indian armed forces by questioning military operations. Party leaders asserted that such statements dilute India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism and undermine the morale of the security forces.
With the Centre pursuing a firm policy to counter cross-border threats, the BJP maintained that the opposition’s remarks were contrary to national interest, further intensifying the political confrontation between the two parties.
