The geopolitical landscape of the Middle East has shifted dramatically as Hezbollah redeploys its elite Radwan Force to the border of Southern Lebanon. According to reports from international news agencies and Lebanese sources, these high-tier fighters—who had largely pulled back following the 2024 conflict—have returned to the frontlines. This move marks a significant escalation, as the Iran-backed group signals its intent to dive deeper into a confrontation that Hezbollah leadership is now describing as a "war of survival."
The primary objective of this redeployment is to stall the momentum of Israeli armored divisions. Members of the Radwan Force have reportedly received explicit orders to intercept and neutralize Israeli tanks, particularly in strategic flashpoints like the town of Khiyam. This specialized unit, originally formed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in 1982, remains the most formidable arm of Hezbollah’s ground capability, despite suffering significant losses of approximately 5,000 fighters during the 2024 hostilities.
In response to these maneuvers, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their operations, sending more troops across the border and conducting widespread strikes throughout Southern Lebanon. The Israeli military has also issued evacuation orders for large swaths of the border region, effectively clearing a zone for expanded military engagement. Following reports of anti-tank fire that injured two Israeli soldiers—the first reported casualties of this specific phase—military spokesmen confirmed that the IDF intends to push further into Lebanese territory to protect northern Israeli communities.
This surge in violence effectively dismantles the remnants of previous diplomatic efforts. While the 2024 ceasefire dictated that Hezbollah remain north of the Litani River, the group has now abandoned these constraints, launching drone and rocket attacks from both sides of the river. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has framed this latest mobilization as a necessary defense against an "expansionist plan" by Israel, suggesting that the group is prepared for a protracted and bloody struggle for its continued existence.
