US–Iran Tensions Ease Slightly as Trump Delays Strike Deadline Amid Ongoing Talks

Amid heightened tensions in West Asia, U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a further postponement of the deadline imposed on Iran to reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz or face potential military strikes targeting its energy infrastructure.

Citing “constructive progress” in ongoing diplomatic efforts, President Trump stated that the United States would defer any military action for more than 10 days, extending the deadline to April 6. This marks the second such extension, signalling a cautious shift toward diplomacy despite earlier aggressive posturing.

“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media and others, they are going very well,” Trump said in a social media post, underscoring his administration’s optimism regarding the negotiations.

The revised timeline follows Washington’s intensified push for Tehran to accept a U.S.-backed framework aimed at de-escalating the conflict. The President had previously warned of severe consequences, including targeted strikes on Iran’s power facilities, should the country fail to comply.

However, Iran has firmly denied that any formal negotiations are currently underway, accusing the Trump administration of attempting to influence global markets through strategic messaging rather than substantive diplomacy.

The evolving situation continues to draw global attention, as stakeholders closely monitor whether diplomatic channels can avert further escalation in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
