Kuwait Arrests Several Over Social Media Posts Backing Iran’s Counterstrikes

Kuwait: Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of several individuals, including women, for allegedly supporting Iran’s retaliatory attacks following recent U.S.–Israel strikes. The arrests were carried out as part of a broader security operation aimed at safeguarding national stability.

In an official statement, the Ministry said the Criminal Security Sector had monitored and apprehended individuals accused of publishing and circulating content deemed harmful to the country’s security and social order. Authorities stated that some of those detained had illegally filmed incidents and disseminated video clips, actions that allegedly misrepresented events, misled public opinion, and contributed to spreading fear among citizens and residents.

The Ministry further confirmed that several individuals were arrested for sharing content on their personal social media accounts expressing sympathy with organisations classified as terrorist groups. Such actions, it said, constitute serious violations under Kuwaiti law.

As part of ongoing efforts to preserve national security, security agencies are said to be closely monitoring social media platforms and workplaces. The Ministry reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for violations that threaten the country’s safety and stability.

Officials also warned the public against filming security personnel while they are performing their duties or recording field operations, noting that such actions could obstruct security work and result in legal consequences. Citizens and expatriates alike were urged to rely solely on official sources for news and to refrain from sharing unverified videos or information.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against those arrested, and they have been referred to the relevant authorities for further action. The Ministry underscored its firm stance against any attempts to undermine national security.

Regional Concerns Amid Escalating Tensions

The developments come amid wider discussions among Gulf nations about the need to avoid further escalation with Iran. Regional observers have also noted the timing of the attacks during the holy month of Ramadan, prompting speculation and diplomatic caution within parts of the Gulf.

As tensions persist in the region, Kuwaiti authorities have signalled that maintaining internal stability remains a top priority.
