A 19-year-old fan of actor-politician Vijay has succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident while following the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader’s convoy in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. The victim, Vignesh, a college student from Tiruchirappalli, died nearly 20 days after the incident.
The accident occurred on March 4, when a large number of fans trailed Vijay’s convoy from Tiruchirappalli airport to a TVK meeting venue at Ayyasamipatti in Sengipatti village. As the convoy approached the venue, multiple motorcycles carrying fans surged forward, resulting in a collision between three bikes. Vignesh sustained severe head injuries in the crash, while four others were also injured.
Following the accident, Vignesh was initially treated locally before being shifted to a private hospital in Tiruchirappalli for advanced care. Despite intensive medical intervention, he remained in critical condition and passed away on Monday.
This incident adds to a series of safety concerns surrounding large gatherings linked to the actor-politician’s public appearances. In a separate incident earlier in February, a migrant worker from Maharashtra died after reportedly fainting during one of Vijay’s rallies in Salem district.
Meanwhile, Vijay, who is preparing to contest his first Assembly election in Tamil Nadu next month, is also under scrutiny in connection with a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into a stampede during a rally held on September 27, 2025, in Karur district. The incident had claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
The recent developments have once again brought attention to crowd management and safety protocols at large political and public events.
