The lawyer representing Ricky Rai, son of late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, has denied allegations that his client was driving a Lamborghini involved in a viral stunt video in Bengaluru.
The video, which shows a luxury Lamborghini performing donuts and drifting on MG Road, quickly gained traction on social media, prompting action from the Cubbon Park Traffic Police. Authorities subsequently registered a case and seized the vehicle.
Lawyer Refutes Police Claims
Police officials have stated that Ricky Rai was behind the wheel during the incident. However, his lawyer, Narayanaswamy, has categorically denied the claim, asserting that a driver was operating the vehicle at the time.
“Ricky Rai was not driving. The car had been sent for servicing, and it was the driver who had taken possession of it,” the lawyer said. While acknowledging Rai’s presence in the vehicle, he emphasised that the act was neither deliberate nor intended to cause public disturbance.
“Accidental Skid,” Not Reckless Driving
The defence further argued that the incident was accidental rather than a deliberate stunt. According to the lawyer, the car skidded due to recently paved road conditions.
“When the brakes were applied, the vehicle lost traction momentarily. However, the driver was skilled enough to regain control immediately. There is nothing significant in the incident,” he added, describing the driver as “talented.”
Investigation Underway
Following the issuance of a notice, Ricky Rai appeared before the Cubbon Park Traffic Police and submitted the relevant vehicle documents. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
Background
Ricky Rai is the son of Muthappa Rai, a controversial figure once associated with the underworld in Karnataka, who later transitioned into business and social activities. In 2023, Ricky Rai survived a shooting incident in Bidadi, further drawing public attention to his profile.
