Trump Announces Conditional Ceasefire as Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) announced a conditional pause in military strikes on Iran, signalling a potential de-escalation in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said he had agreed to suspend aerial bombardments for a period of two weeks, subject to Iran ensuring the “complete, immediate, and safe” reopening of the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz—a key global oil transit route.

The announcement marks a significant diplomatic development amid heightened tensions in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply passes, has remained a focal point of the conflict.

Iran, in response, confirmed its agreement to the temporary ceasefire arrangement and pledged to guarantee safe passage for maritime traffic through the waterway during the two-week period. However, Iranian authorities clarified that the move should not be interpreted as a formal end to hostilities.

In a strongly worded statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council underscored that its military posture remains unchanged, warning that any breach of the ceasefire terms would be met with a decisive response. “Our forces remain fully prepared, and any violation by the opposing side will invite immediate and forceful retaliation,” the council stated.

While the agreement offers a brief window for de-escalation, the situation remains fragile, with both sides maintaining a cautious and guarded stance.
