UDHAMPUR – The death toll following a tragic bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district has risen to 21, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh confirmed on Monday. The incident, which occurred during the morning hours, has also left 61 others injured.
The Incident
The accident took place as the passenger bus was in transit from Ramnagar to Udhampur town. While the exact cause of the crash is currently under investigation, the vehicle reportedly veered off its course, resulting in significant casualties.
Rescue and Medical Response
Emergency services acted swiftly to transport the victims to nearby medical facilities. Minister Singh provided an update on the medical evacuation efforts via a statement on X (formerly Twitter):
- Casualties: 21 confirmed fatalities.
- Injuries: 61 individuals sustained injuries of varying severity.
- Medical Care: Most of the injured are receiving treatment at Udhampur Hospital.
- Critical Care: One individual in critical condition has been airlifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu for specialized treatment.
Government Statement
Dr. Jitendra Singh, who represents the Kathua-Udhampur constituency in the Lok Sabha, expressed his deep sympathies to the affected families and assured that the administration is providing comprehensive support.
"My sincere condolences to the bereaved families," Singh stated. "All possible assistance is being provided to those in need, and my office remains in constant touch with the local authorities to monitor the situation."
Local administration and police officials remain on-site to coordinate relief efforts and assist the families of the victims. Further updates regarding the investigation into the cause of the accident are expected as authorities conclude their preliminary assessment
