Kanpur: In a major crackdown on crime, police in Kanpur carried out an extensive operation over 48 hours, resulting in the arrest of 750 accused individuals.
The special drive was launched under the direction of Police Commissioner Raghuveer Lal, with coordinated action across all police station jurisdictions within the Kanpur Commissionerate. The operation, which began on Tuesday, involved continuous raids and enforcement actions targeting individuals who had been absconding for extended periods or were facing pending court warrants.
According to Joint Police Commissioner Vipin Tada, personnel from all police stations acted simultaneously as part of the coordinated effort. Of the total arrests, 225 individuals were apprehended under non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and were produced directly before the court, from where they were remanded to judicial custody.
The remaining accused have been taken into custody at various police stations, with further legal proceedings currently underway.
Police officials stated that the primary objective of the operation was to revive long-pending investigations that had stalled due to the absconding status of several accused. By apprehending these individuals, authorities aim to expedite the legal process and strengthen law enforcement outcomes.
Significant arrests were also reported from the South Zone of Kanpur, where multiple absconding offenders wanted under court warrants were detained and presented before senior police officials.
Officials noted that this marks one of the largest such operations conducted in Kanpur, with such a high number of arrests within a 48-hour period being unprecedented. Authorities have indicated that similar drives will continue in the future as part of an intensified strategy to curb crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
