In a landmark political development in Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is poised to assume office as the state’s first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), following the resignation of Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.
Choudhary has been elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party, clearing the way for his formal nomination to be submitted at Lok Bhavan. The move marks a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape, where Nitish Kumar has long been the central figure in governance.
According to senior BJP sources, Choudhary is scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister on Wednesday, April 15, at 11:00 am. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to formalise the BJP’s leadership in the state for the first time.
The transition signals a major realignment in Bihar politics, potentially reshaping alliances and governance dynamics in one of India’s most politically pivotal states.
