Simon Doull Warns Rising Star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Against ‘Management Pitfalls’

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old prodigy, has rapidly emerged as one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket following his sensational performances in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. From striking the very first ball of his IPL career for a six to confidently taking on elite bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah, the teenager has demonstrated remarkable composure and skill, living up to the growing expectations surrounding his talent.

His consistent performances have already sparked discussions about a potential call-up to the national side later this year. However, amid the rising fame and attention, former New Zealand national cricket team pacer Simon Doull has issued a word of caution regarding the influence of management agencies.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Doull emphasised the importance of maintaining the right support system. He noted that while management companies are meant to guide and protect young athletes, many may prioritise their own financial interests over the player’s long-term development. “He is already becoming a superstar, and if his trajectory continues, he could well become a leading figure in Indian white-ball cricket. However, the key lies in the people he chooses to surround himself with,” Doull observed.

He further warned that numerous agencies would be eager to capitalise on the youngster’s rapid rise, often focusing on commercial opportunities rather than career sustainability. Doull highlighted that such entities may shift their attention elsewhere if performance levels decline, underscoring the need for careful decision-making at this stage.

Advising restraint, he urged Sooryavanshi to remain focused on his cricket and avoid being drawn into premature commercial commitments. “Longevity should be the priority. At this stage, it is crucial to protect his development rather than overexpose him,” Doull said, adding that a strong family foundation could play a vital role in navigating these challenges.

As Sooryavanshi continues his ascent, his journey serves as both an inspiring story of young talent and a reminder of the complexities that accompany early success in modern professional sport.
