“I, my family, Kalyan Jewellers, and all its staff are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected. As a gesture of support, we will be providing ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives,” he said.

Details of the Incident

The explosion occurred at approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday at a fireworks unit engaged in preparing crackers for the Thrissur Pooram, scheduled to be held on April 26. The unit comprised multiple temporary sheds set up in an isolated area surrounded by paddy fields.
According to reports, nearly 40 workers were present at the site when the blast took place, leading to significant casualties and injuries.

Government Declares State-Specific Disaster
In response to the severity of the incident, the Government of Kerala has classified the explosion as a state-specific disaster. This designation enables the authorities to expedite relief operations and extend immediate assistance to those affected.
The state government has also announced a compensation of ₹14 lakh for the dependents of the deceased, in addition to ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures.
The incident has once again raised concerns over safety standards in fireworks manufacturing units, particularly in the lead-up to major festival events.
