President Murmu to Honor 48 Educators with National Teachers' Awards 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan

NEW DELHI — In a national celebration of pedagogical excellence and innovation, President of India Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to confer the prestigious National Teachers' Awards 2026 upon 48 exceptional educators from across the country. The high-profile ceremony will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5, coinciding with the nationwide observance of Teachers' Day.

Selection Process and Institutional Diversity

Organized annually by the Department of
School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, the awards recognize teachers who have substantially elevated school education standards through remarkable classroom innovation, deep community engagement, and transformative teaching methodologies.

This year's cohort of 48 honorees comprises 26 male and 22 female educators representing 27 states, seven Union Territories, and six central government organizations. The selection followed a rigorous, transparent three-stage evaluation process spanning district, state, and national levels through an independent national jury. The awardees hail from diverse institutional frameworks, including government schools, PM SHRI schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

Regional Highlights and Broadcast Arrangements

While exceptional educators from diverse linguistic and geographic backgrounds have been selected—ranging from technology-driven primary teachers in rural Andhra Pradesh to community-focused science educators in Odisha—Uttar Pradesh features prominently with multiple selections in this year's national tally.

The upcoming event at Vigyan Bhawan will also feature short documentary showcases highlighting the individual grassroots contributions and unique teaching initiatives of each recipient. To ensure nationwide participation, the ceremony will be broadcast live across Doordarshan channels and streamed digitally through the Ministry of Education's SWAYAM PRABHA educational television network.
