BEIJING — Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing for the twenty-fifth round of Special Representative-level talks on the protracted India-China boundary dispute. Meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Doval’s discussions are centered on military disengagement, regional stability, and navigating deeply ingrained structural differences.
The Special Representatives mechanism was established in 2003 to forge a political framework for the disputed frontier. This high-profile dialogue comes at a sensitive juncture as both nations attempt to repair diplomatic and economic channels following the severe strain caused by the 2020 Galwan Valley standoff.
Reviewing troop disengagement protocols and restoring reliable patrolling frameworks form the core agenda of the talks. India maintains the firm stance that peace and tranquility along the border are non-negotiable preconditions for normalising the broader bilateral relationship. This visit is expected to provide a new strategic direction to bilateral ties, and NSA Doval is also scheduled to hold formal discussions with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng during his stay.
