Since July 2018, a unique QR code has been issued on all PAN cards containing information about the taxpayer. With this QR code, you can check the PAN card holder's picture, name, father's / mother's name and date of birth.

The Permanent Account Number or PAN (PAN) card is a 10 digit unique alphanumeric code that keeps a complete record of an individual's financial transactions in India. PAN card is also used by individuals all over India as an identity document. But now many people are using fake PAN cards. Until recently, these were very difficult to identify.

To read this QR code you need to use an app called 'Advanced Pan QR Code Reader' available in the Google Play Store. Anyone with an Android smartphone can download this app. With this app you can scan the QR code of any PAN card, verify the information printed on the card in real time and verify the authenticity of the PAN card.

How to check PAN card with a smartphone?

  • First, go to the Google Play Store and download the Enhanced Pan QR Code Reader app
  • Click the Next button that appears when you open the app.
  • The camera-like viewfinder opens with a green dot in the center of the screen.
  • Point the camera at the QR code on the PAN card. Make sure the green icon is in the middle of the QR code.
  • Upon successful scanning, you will receive all the details linked to the QR code.

Things you should keep in mind while using the app
  • To use the app, you need a smartphone with at least a 12-megapixel sensor with autofocus
  • Keep a distance of about 10 cm between the camera and the QR code
  • Avoid flash or external light glare directly on the QR code
  • Be careful not to shake the smartphone while scanning the QR code
  • Clean the PAN card properly and make sure there is no dust or damage to the QR code.
  • Make sure there is enough light when scanning
