The HSE Confirmed On Thursday That The Child, Who Was Being Treated At A Hospital For Severe Hepatitis, Had Died.

The HSE confirmed on Thursday that the child, who was being treated at a hospital for severe hepatitis, had died.

Hepatitis is a term used to describe inflammation of the liver. It is usually the result of a viral infection or liver damage caused by alcohol. But it can also be caused by other infectious and non-communicable diseases.

There are different types of hepatitis.

Some types will pass without serious problems. But others will last longer (chronic). They can cause cirrhosis of the liver, loss of liver function and, in some cases, liver cancer.

The tragic death comes amid an increase in cases of unexplained stress related to the virus being reported worldwide. Meanwhile, the second child to be treated for the virus received liver transplant surgery in the UK.

According to health officials, at least 169 cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children have been reported as of April. In all of these cases, they confirmed that the children were between the ages of one and 12 and that all had been hospitalized.

Irish officials say they are working with the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization to identify what causes the disease. Viral hepatitis is a highly neglected epidemic in the European region of the World Health Organization. About 13 million people are infected with chronic hepatitis B, and it is estimated that about 15 million people are infected with hepatitis C, but in most 80% of cases most people are unaware that they are infected with the virus, which appears as a symptom.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, to prevent infection, children - or anyone who has not been vaccinated before - should be vaccinated against hepatitis B and hepatitis A.

There is no vaccine against hepatitis C, D, and E, and once hepatitis is present, there is no cure.

Parents are warned to pay attention to the main symptoms of the disease and to contact a medical professional if their children begin to show any of them.

Short-term (acute) hepatitis often has no obvious symptoms, so you may not realize you have it.

Symptoms may include:

  • Muscle and joint pain
  • A high temperature
  • Feeling and nausea
  • Feeling unusually tired all the time
  • The general feeling of not feeling well
  • Anorexia
  • stomach ache
  • Dark urine
  • Pale, grayish discharge
  • Itchy skin
  • Yellowing Of The Eyes And Skin (Jaundice)
