Health ministers from various states who attended the 14th session of the World Health Organization's Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFWW) called the estimated 4.7 million Covid-related deaths in India "unfounded" and "intentional." Show the country in a bad light. ”
She said India has a strong, efficient and comprehensive system for registering deaths and all Covid deaths are being recorded in a transparent manner following legal procedures.
The conference on Friday passed a resolution strongly opposing the World Health Organization's figures on Covid deaths in India.
It stated that the World Health Organization's figures were "not acceptable" to India and that the modeling method used by the World Health Organization to measure this was "erroneous".
The three-day conference of the CCHFW, the High Advisory Council of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, began on Thursday in Kevadia, Gujarat. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavya presided over the function.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar has questioned the modeling method used by the World Health Organization to reach the death estimate, alleging that it was an attempt to tarnish India's image.
There is no logic behind the modeling method used by the World Health Organization to reach estimates. All the health ministers at the conference here condemned the report and passed a resolution against it. We requested Union Health Minister Mansukh Mahdavia to convey India's frustration to the World Health Organization. Raise it to high international forums, ”he told PTI.
"We stick to our numbers because we have a strong, legal and transparent mechanism for data collection and monitoring of Covid mortality. This is a mere attempt to discredit India for doing a good job in Covid management. There seems to be malice behind the report. Sudhakar said.
Punjab Health Minister Vijay Singla has accused the World Health Organization (WHO) of fabricating death tolls and estimates of 47.4 lakh Covid-related deaths.
“India has a strong data collection system and its authenticity should not be doubted. The modeling method used by the Global Health Organization is not scientific, ”he said.
Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang has alleged that there is a conspiracy going on in the Kovid-19 front to downplay India's achievements, from low mortality rates to high vaccination coverage.
“The WHO's calculations are wrong and not based on accurate mathematics. All the health ministers who attended the conference said the WHO report was not based on facts, ”he told PTI.
Sarang said 20 to 22 health ministers, including those from non-BJP-ruled states, had unanimously rejected the WHO report.
Echoing similar sentiments, Sikkim Health Minister MK Sharma and his Bihar minister Mangal Pandey accused the WHO report of being "unsubstantiated" and that its modeling method was "unscientific".
They claimed that this was a deliberate attempt to misrepresent India and that birth and death registration in the country was extremely strong and was governed by a decades-old legal framework, the Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969.
The Union Ministry of Health on Thursday strongly opposed the use of mathematical models used by the World Health Organization to estimate pandemic-related mortality in view of the availability of authoritative data, saying the validity and robustness of the models used and the method of data collection were questionable.
India is likely to raise the issue at the World Health Assembly and other multi-faceted forums, ministry sources said.
"Despite India's opposition to the process, methodology and outcome of this modeling exercise, the WHO has released additional death statistics without adequately addressing India's concerns," the Union Ministry of Health said.
India has also informed the World Health Organization that mathematical models should not be used to calculate excess mortality in India in view of the availability of authoritative data published through the Civil Registration System of the Registrar General of India.
“India firmly believes that such strong and accurate data generated by the legal framework of a Member State must be respected, accepted and used.
