IRELAND: € 500 worth 'Welcome Gift' "Little Baby Bundle" Country Gift for Parents and Newborns - Minister Roderick O'Gorman

'Welcome Gift' Little Baby Bundles, designed to promote the health and well-being of newborns and to help parents during the first days and weeks of a baby's life, are inspired by similarly successful initiatives in Scotland and Finland. "The new Baby Bundle project is a welcome gift for every newborn in Ireland, as well as practical support for parents navigating the first few weeks and months of their baby's life."

500 parents will receive a free bundle of goods worth € 500 in Ireland this Summer when their children are born. Children's Minister Roderick O'Gorman announced on Monday the details of a plan to pilot the Little Baby Bundle in collaboration with Rotunda Hospital in Dublin and University Hospital in Waterford.

The Little Baby Bundle will be packed with many important items, including play items to promote early communication and relationships, home appliances to help with a safe bath and safe sleep, and many other items to support new parents after birth.

Little Baby Bundle includes a blanket, hooded bath towel, a digital thermometer, a bath sponge, a baby grow, a vest, muslin cloths, socks, nappies, cream, wipes, nursing, maternity pads, cream, a breast pump, a sling, matte and baby monitor. These include information on breastfeeding, safe sleep, and postpartum depression. A resource for informing parents about access to the National Child Care Plan will also be provided. The bundle will also include a booklet containing helpful information and advice for expectant parents, including links to online parenting resources and a library card "to encourage families to establish contact with their local library and to promote reading and parent-child relationships." .

Commenting on the plans, Minister O'Gorman said:

“We have seen the success of similar initiatives in Scotland and Finland, so I'm pleased to announce these plans to pilot the Little Baby Bundle in partnership with our partners Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, University Hospital and Waterford.

"Little Baby Bundle is a welcome gift for every little newcomer to Ireland, while also providing parents with practical support as they navigate the first few weeks and months of their baby's life."

A procurement process for the Little Baby Bundle Managing Agent is currently underway by publishing a request for tenders on etenders.gov.ie. A request for tenders for the Little Baby Bundle Evaluation Partner will be examined to see if the Little Baby Bundle is suitable for a wider roll-out, which will be published later this summer. The pilot of 'Little Baby Bundle' is funded by the Dormant Accounts Fund.
