Dublin: A young man convicted of killing his Indian wife and children has been found dead in jail. The cause of death of Sameer Saeed, (38) is unknown, who was scheduled to go on trial next week, is being investigated.
In October 2020, wife Seema Banu (37) and children Asfira Reza (11) and Faizan Syed (6) murdered in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. The deceased Sameer was scheduled to face trial in the Central Criminal Court next Wednesday in the case.
Sameer Syed, 38, of Grosvenor Lodge, Rathmines, Dublin 6, was found Thursday afternoon in a cell in the Midlands Jail, sources said. The cause of his death is unknown. Garda described Mr. Syed's death as a "tragic event". The Irish Prison Service confirmed the death of a prisoner in the Midlands prison, but did not provide further details. “All deaths in custody are being investigated by the Irish Prison Service, the Inspector of Prisons and the Garda, where circumstances require. The cause of death is determined by the coroner's office, "he said.
Ms. Banu, from India, lived with her two children at the Llewellyn home. The bodies were found after neighbors on the estate informed the garda. The family had not been seen for days. The bodies of Seema Banu, 37, her daughter Asfira, 11, and son Faizan, 6, were discovered at their home in Llewellyn Court, Rathfarnham in South Dublin on October 28 last year. When Garda stormed the house, they found Banu's body upstairs and Faizan's and Asfira's in another bedroom. The father of tragic Seema Banu has died after of broken heart, her family have said.
Syed had been interested in the murder investigation from the beginning, but it took Garda a month to gather enough evidence to arrest him. Shortly before his arrest on November 28, 2020, he actively attended the funeral of his wife and children.
