Four Day Week Ireland is a campaign advocating for a gradual, steady, managed transition to a shorter working week for all workers, in the private and public sectors.

More than 3,000 workers from 70 companies began a four-day week in the UK on a six-month trial without losing pay.

A hundred years ago, we moved from working six day weeks to five, and we’re overdue for an update. The 4 day work week is a reduction in the work week from a standard 40 hours to 32 hours for the same pay and benefits. This reduction has been proven to work for employees and employers.

One hundred years ago, we moved from six days of work to five weeks, and now it's expired for an update. A 4-day work week is a reduction from the usual 40 hours of work week to 32 hours for the same pay and benefits. This shortfall has been proven to be for employees and employers.

The largest four-day work week in which more than 70 companies and 3,300 workers are ready to participate will begin in Pilot UK, as well as in Ireland and other participating countries.

Based on the principle of 100: 80: 100 model, trial employees will not lose salary. In return for their commitment to maintaining 100 percent productivity, employees will receive 100 percent of their salary for 80 percent of the time.

A significant number of companies from various fields including banking, care, online retail, IT software training, housing, animation studios and hospitality are participating in the trial.

In exchange for a commitment to maintain at least 100% productivity, participating firms will pay 100% of workers' wages for 80% of the time.

The trial is organized by 4 Day Week Global in partnership with researchers from the Think Tank Autonomy, 4 Day Week UK Campaign, Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College.

“As we emerge from Pandemic, more and more companies are realizing that the new frontier for competition is living standards. Minimal hours of output-focused work are the means by which they gain competitive advantage. Researchers will measure the impact of the new approach on productivity, gender equality, the environment and workers' well-being.

Participating companies provide products and services ranging from education to workplace consultancy; Banking; Care; Financial services; IT software training; Professional development and legal training; Housing; Automotive distribution services; Online retail; Sustainable homecare; skin care; Animation studios; Building construction recruitment services; Food, drink and hospitality; Digital marketing; Researchers will work with integrated case management services for people recovering from traumatic injury, and with each participating organization to measure the impact on productivity and the well-being of its workers, the environment and gender equality.
