DUBLIN: Aer Lingus has cancelled further flights from Dublin Airport this weekend as it continues to deal with shortages due to “staff illness”.
The 4.40pm flight to New York JFK today, EI107, has been grounded along with the 8.40am return flight on Sunday, EI106.
The airline has also cancelled the 2.55pm flight from Faro, EI493.Ryanair has also cancelled two flights from Dublin Airport today, the 7pm flight from Brussels has been called off, FR1457, along with the return 7.25pm flight to Brussels, FR1456.
Aer Lingus has been forced to cancel flights since the beginning of the month because to a rise in Covid-19 cases and widespread European industrial action.
All impacted customers have been apologised to by the airline, which has claimed it will contact them directly to "advise them of their rights and give options, including rebooking or refund."
It claimed that in June, cancellations affected slightly more than 1 percent of Aer Lingus flights.
This summer, the airline sector has struggled to resume its pre-Covid schedules as a result of widespread strike action throughout Europe.
This occurs at a time when Heathrow will maintain its cap on holiday flights through the end of October.
According to reports, the airport informed the airlines that owing to "staff shortages and absences," restrictions on departure and incoming flights must remain in place until October 29.
In an effort to alleviate the enormous pressure that airports are under as a result of pent-up demand and staff shortages, officials at Heathrow last week announced that they were limiting the number of passengers leaving the airport each day to 100,000 until September.
