Draupadi Murmu Elected 15th President: Salary, Benefits, Retirement Benefits of India's First Citizen

INDIA: Draupadi Murmu was elected as the 15th President of India on Thursday, defeating Yashwant Sinha of the opposition by a wide margin. The youngest President in India's history and the first tribal President will be the new resident of Rashtrapati Bhavan after taking oath on July 25. 

President of India's salary, perks and retirement benefits

1. The salary of the Indian president is ₹5 lakh per month. It was raised in 2016 by 200% from ₹1.5 lakh.

2. A president receives a pension of 1.5 lakh rupees after retiring. The monthly cost of secretarial support for presidents' spouses is ₹30,000.

3. The president receives free housing, free health care, and one lakh rupees per year for official expenses.

4. Rashtrapati Bhavan serves as the President of India's official residence. Its 2,00,000 square foot floor area contains 340 rooms.

5. The president is permitted to take a vacation during two official retreats. One is in Hyderabad's Bolarum, and the other is in Shimla's Mashobra.

6. The president is entitled to free international train and air travel.

7. The president is given a black Mercedes Benz S600 (W221) Pullman Guard that is specially made. The president's official visits are also reserved for a fully armoured stretch limousine.

8. For security considerations, the specifications of the Indian President's cars are never made public. Additionally, the national emblem is shown on these vehicles in place of the licence plate.

9. The security of the President of India is the responsibility of the President's Bodyguard.

10. In addition to the pension, the President of India receives a few other post-retirement benefits, such as a furnished, rent-free bungalow, two free landlines, and a mobile phone. He also receives a fiver personal staff member, 60,000 rupees annually to cover staff expenses, and complimentary train or air travel for two.
