INDIA: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday said the citizens above 18 years of age will be given free Covid-19 booster doses from July 15 till the next 75 days.
Aimed at improving the third-dose coverage, the drive will be held as part of the government's 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of India's Independence.
The Union Minister’s remarks come as India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 199.12 crore.
A statement issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the government is committed to increase and expedite the coverage of Covid-19 vaccination across the country.
The Ministry announced that nationwide Covid-19 vaccination started on January 16, 2021 and the new phase of universalization of vaccination started from June 21.
Availability of more vaccines and earlier visibility of vaccine availability has enhanced the vaccination drive to enable better planning for states and Union Territories and streamline the vaccine supply chain, the ministry said.
