Andhra Pradesh: Four Congress workers were arrested in Andhra Pradesh on Monday for releasing black balloons near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter in Vijayawada. Police said more arrests are likely in the case.
Krishna District Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Kaushal said three Congress protesters were detained for releasing black balloons shortly after Modi's helicopter took off from the Gannavaram airport.
According to the explanation given later by the police, there was no security breach when Modi arrived at the Gannavaram airport. The balloons were released (by helicopter from the airport) 5 minutes after the departure of the Prime Minister.
According to reports, Congress leaders were demonstrating at the airport when the Prime Minister's helicopter took off. After releasing black balloons, they shouted slogans.
Modi was in Bhimavaram in Andhra Pradesh to attend the 125th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. He unveiled a 30-foot bronze statue of the legendary Liberty to mark the event. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the 15-tonne statue was carved by the Kshatriya Seva Samiti at the Municipal Park in Bhimavaram ASR Nagar at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
