Salman Rushdie's condition is serious after he was stabbed; The sight of one eye may be lost; Liver injury

Author Salman Rushdie, who was attacked during a public event in America, is in critical condition. He is on a ventilator and may lose sight in one eye, AFP news agency reported, citing people close to him. The nerve in the arm is severed. It is reported that the liver was also injured. According to the news agency report, he cannot speak now.

He was airlifted to hospital shortly after the stabbing and underwent emergency surgery. The incident happened when he came to speak at the Chautauqua Institute in western New York. After Rushdie was welcomed to the stage, a man rushed and attacked him. The neck was injured. The assailant retreated after Rushdi fell to the ground.Footage circulating on social media shows people rushing to help Rushdie. New York state police have named the suspected attacker as Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, who was taken into custody following the incident.

Salman Rushdie was born in Mumbai and is now a citizen of the United Kingdom. The 1988 publication of the book The Satanic Versus generated a lot of debate. On blasphemous grounds, Iran prohibited it. Additionally, a reward of $30,000 (about Rs. 24 crores) was offered for the murder of Rushdie. Fourth book by Rushdie is The Satanic Vs. He gained worldwide fame after the 1981 release of Midnight's Children.
