Several bodies bound with rope are among those visible at a mass burial site being exhumed by Ukrainian police and forensic experts in a territory recaptured days ago from Russians in northeastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials said they had found 440 bodies in woodlands near the city of Izium.
They said most of the dead were civilians, and that the site proved war crimes had been committed by Russian invaders who occupied the area for months.
Men in white overalls were digging out bodies at the site in a forest where around 200 makeshift wooden crosses were scattered among trees. Some 20 white body bags could be seen.
In a video message over the weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, "Russia is leaving death behind it everywhere and must be held accountable."
The human rights office of the UN intends to dispatch observers there.
According to spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell, "our colleagues in Ukraine are following up on these accusations and they are seeking to organise a monitoring visit to Izium to ascertain the circumstances of these individuals' deaths."
The team hoped to visit the northeastern city "soon," she continued.
A mass burial was found in Izyum, Kharkiv region. Necessary procedures have already begun. All bodies will be exhumed and sent for forensic examination. Expect more information tomorrow.

Ms. Throssell stated that she was unable to confirm whether the deceased were interred in a single mass burial or a number of separate graves.
The claims, she said, were "terrible," and the UN team will be investigating to see if any of the deaths were caused by military personnel or civilians.
The largest mass grave discovered in Europe since the aftermath of the Balkan Wars of the 1990s is at the site near Izium, a former Russian frontline position.
After tens of thousands of Russian soldiers abandoned their guns and ammunition and fled the area, Ukrainian forces retook Izium.
Ihor Klymenko, the head of the Ukrainian police, stated during a press conference that all of the bodies found there so far looked to be those of civilians, despite intelligence suggesting some military may also have been interred there.
Mykhailo Podolyak, Mr. Zelensky's advisor, tweeted in English, "For months a rampant terror, brutality, torture and mass murders were in the occupied regions," alongside images of a muddy pit that was cordoned off with red-and-white crime-scene tape.
"Instead of deploying tanks, would anyone else wish to "pause the war"? People cannot be left alone with the Evil without our permission."

Russia disputes the allegations of atrocities committed by its occupying forces. Russian state news agency TASS reported that Vitaly Ganchev, the head of the pro-Russian government that left the region last week, accused Ukrainian forces of killing people and attempting to place the blame on Moscow.
"Bucha is not an isolated incidence" Bucha was "not an isolated incidence" and other recently liberated areas under Russian control are displaying "similar horror stories of civilians, as well as troops, in mass graves." the discovery of brutalised bodies, as was not only the case in Bucha.
He claimed that it serves as a reminder of the nature of the conflict, the reasons why Ireland and so many other nations have shown an interest in and engagement in Russian aggression against Ukraine, and the reasons why Ukraine needs support and assistance.
His remarks follow a recent trip he made to the Ukrainian city of Odesa. He has returned to the war-torn nation twice since the Russian invasion started in February.
