There will be a "massive effort" under way this weekend as part of Ireland's Big Beach Clean, according to An Taisce’s Communities Manager.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Sinead McCoy said that during the hot weather, a lot of beaches were heavily littered.
While communities make an incredible effort at beach cleans, there is still some rubbish left over from the summer.
People are being urged to participate in the clean-up at 500 places throughout Ireland by An Taisce.
She claimed that in addition to the cleanup effort, this is a component of a science project because information may be gathered to pinpoint problems and develop answers.
Everyone receives a data card and a link to an online form to complete, according to Ms. McCoy.
She claimed that they use the data to inform various departments, campaigns, and programmes, and that it is also disseminated abroad.
She emphasised the amount of plastic accumulating up as one of the concerns and said they have found "anything and everything" on the beach.
The focus of the clean-up this weekend, according to the speaker, is on single-use plastics and returning "our beaches to as pristine" as possible.
The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), run globally by Ocean Conservancy, includes The Big Beach Clean as an annual call to action. Tomorrow at 10 am, the main event will begin at Ardnahinch in County Cork.
