Riyadh: A new international airport is being built in Riyadh in the name of King Salman. Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, President of the Economic and Development Committee and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund, announced the King Salman International Airport Master Plan, which will transform the city of Riyadh into a gateway to the world, a global destination for transport, trade and tourism, and a connectivity connecting East and West.
By 2030, the capacity of the airport will be increased to 12 crore passengers per year. It also aims to increase the capacity of the airport to accommodate 18.5 crore passengers and 3.5 lakh tonnes of cargo annually by 2050.
The new airport will help cement Saudi Arabia's position as a global logistics hub. The new airport will also boost Saudi Arabia's plan to make Riyadh one of the world's ten largest urban economies. The new airport project coincides with the continued growth in the capital city's population. By 2030, the population of Riyadh is expected to increase from one and a half crore to two crore.

One of the largest airports in the world, King Salman Airport is spread over an area of 57 square kilometers. With the construction of the new airport, the existing terminals at Riyadh Airport will be known as King Khalid Terminals. These will also be part of the new airport. King Salman International Airport will have a total of six runways. The 12 square kilometer area will have ancillary facilities, residential centers, entertainment centers, commercial establishments and many other logistics facilities.
The new airport will be equipped with state-of-the-art accommodation, entertainment and commercial facilities with designs that emulate Saudi culture to provide visitors and passengers with a unique travel experience with smooth, efficient and effective services. The new airport, which prioritizes sustainability, will use renewable energy sources. King Salman Airport also aims to achieve the LEAD Platinum certificate for eco-friendly projects. It emphasizes economic diversification, development of background projects and real estate projects in the country in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and the National Global Supply Chain Plan.
