At least 288 people were killed and 1000 injured when three trains collided in Odisha's Balasore. In the latest update on the disaster, PTI reported that the death toll has risen. Rescue operations are underway after the Coromandel Express collided with a goods train in Balasore on Friday.
Four coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed after a collision with a goods train in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday evening, officials said. The accident took place around 7.20 pm near Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was traveling from Shalimar station near Kolkata to Chennai Central station.
According to the latest information we received at 11:45 PM, 600 people were injured and shifted to hospital... The exact number of casualties is yet to be received... Four NDRF teams were dispatched from Bhubaneswar in Kolkata for the rescue operation. "Two of our teams are already leaving from Bhubaneswar and two teams have been mobilized from Kolkata. They are fully prepared to carry out search and rescue operations," informed NDRF DIG Manoj Yadav. NDRF sends 6 teams to train accident site in Odisha; More than 240 personnel have been deployed.
