Bank of Ireland cashed out cashless yesterday; Unusual "Queues" at Ireland airport today; BOI says mobile app and online portal have resolved technical issues

Last night, an unusual malfunction in some ATM machines across the country resulted in ATM machines disbursing cash to many people who did not have cash in their accounts.

It went viral on social media and led to huge queues at Bank of Ireland ATMs in Ireland last night. Long queues formed in many places in front of ATMs as the news spread that there is a facility to withdraw from 500 Euros to 1000 Euros even if there is no money in the bank account. And there was a huge rush in the shopping malls

News that money can be transferred to another account even if there is no money in the account has led to huge queues at ATMs in various parts of the country and the Gardaí (Irish Police) having to remove people from ATMs to disperse the crowds and even block access.

And a huge queue formed at Dublin Airport to go on holiday with this money. Some travel agents were busy with bookings today. Reports on social media suggest that some customers have been able to transfer more money than they have in their Bank of Ireland accounts to other external accounts and then withdraw money from ATMs.

But in a statement this morning, the bank said these withdrawals and transfers will be applied to customer accounts today. It said any customer facing financial hardship due to overdrawing in their account should contact the bank. While contactless, card and ATM services were not affected, the problems first arose when customers were unable to access services.

Bank of Ireland technical glitch Last night Bank of Ireland experienced technical problems with its mobile app and 365 online, which led to some customers being able to transfer or withdraw more money than was in their account.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the bank said the app and 365 online are back up after yesterday's outage, and overnight payments will be made to accounts throughout the day.

It says customers should contact Bank of Ireland first if they have concerns about their service. For more information, affected customers should contact Bank of Ireland on 0818 214 365 or visit www.bankofireland.com Bank of Ireland has resolved a technical issue that disrupted its online banking portal 365 Online and mobile banking app, the bank said.

The Central Bank said it is continuing to monitor the availability of certain services provided by Bank of Ireland. The Central Bank stated that our engagement with Bank of Ireland has resolved the issues and errors identified for customers and is doing everything possible to meet customers' expectations of a high quality seamless service.

Yesterday's outage is yet another example of Bank of Ireland's IT systems not working. Bank of Ireland apologized for the disruption and admitted it was "well below the standards our customers have come to expect from us".
