New Delhi: Discussions are heating up whether India's name will be changed to Bharat. These discussions were initiated by an official invitation issued in connection with the G-20 summit.
In the official invitation letter sent to the G-20 summit dinner at Rashtrapathi Bhavan, instead of 'President of India', it was mentioned as 'President of India'. With this, speculations spread that the central government is trying to change the name of the country.
The opposition has also come forward to criticize the Center on the issue. Many, including BJP leaders, were in favor, while the Congress and other opposition parties opposed the government
There is speculation that a constitutional amendment bill may be introduced to effect the change, with a special session of Parliament set to begin on September 18. Although the agenda of the session has not yet been released, the possibility of such a bill cannot be ruled out.Congress leader Jairam Ramesh lashed out at the Center amid reports that India may be renamed Bharat. He also said that instead of 'President of India', 'President of India' has been written in the invitation to the G20 summit dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan.'That means this news is true. Rashtrapati Bhavan has sent invitations to the G20 dinner on September 9 with the name 'President of India' instead of 'President of India',” Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X (Twitter). Now, Article 1 of the Constitution reads: 'Bharat, formerly India, shall be a Union of States.' But now even this 'Union of States' is under attack," the Congress leader said, lashing out at the BJP-led central government.
"Name change is untrue" The central government is denying the news of name change. President Draupadi Murmu's invitation letter, which was written as President of India instead of President of India, led to great discussions and controversies.
But the central government has rejected the rumors of changing the country's name. Union Minister Anurag Thakur has clarified that the name change is just a rumour.
