Maldives has suspended three ministers after the Maldives minister's remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi became controversial. Ministers including Maryam Shiuna who made bad remarks were suspended. Ministers Malsha and Hasan Sihan are the other two suspended ministers.
The duo took on Maryam Shiuna's statement and made defamatory remarks on social media platform X and shared posts against comparing Lakshadweep with Maldives.
After India expressed its displeasure with Mariam Shiuna's controversial statement, the Maldives government issued an official explanation saying that the minister's opinion is only personal and not government policy. Later, action was taken against three ministers in this regard.
"What a clown, Israel's puppet Mr. Narendra Modi diving with a life jacket," Youth Empowerment Minister Maryam Shiuna shared a video of Modi's visit to Lakshadweep on X. After the controversy, the post was removed by the minister.
The Government believes that freedom of invention should be exercised democratically and responsibly. It should be done in a manner that does not spread hatred and does not undermine the relationship between the Maldives and its international partners,'' the government said in a statement.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep, another minister of Maldives, Abdullah Mahsoom Majid Xil, said that India is targeting Maldives and that India is facing challenges in beach tourism.
A number of people came forward through the X platform with a call to 'boycott Maldives' against the ministers' remarks. Many people also said that the decision to celebrate a holiday in the Maldives has been cancelled.
