Thiruvananthapuram: Director Ram Gopal Verma has revealed that the song 'Jai Ho' from the Oscar-winning film 'Slum Dog Millionaire' was not actually composed by AR Rahman. He said that the song was actually composed by singer Sukhwinder Singh. Ram Gopal Verma made the allegation in an interview with Film Companion.
In 2008, the song Jai Ho was composed for the film 'Yuvraaj', directed by Subhash Ghai, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. This was done by Sukhwinder Singh. Rahman was in London while composing the song. Subhash Ghai was all set to shoot the song as soon as possible.
As he got busy, Rahman assigned Sukhwinder to arrange the song. That's how he created the Jai Ho melody. But the producer decided that this song was not suitable for the film Yuvraj. So the song was omitted from the film. Ram Gopal Varma said that Rahman used this song for the film Slum Dog Millionaire the following year.
In an interview, Ram Gopal Varma said that Subhash Ghai exploded when he learned that Rahman, who was paid crores, had given him a tune arranged by Sukhwinder. He said that Rahman gave a great answer to the director who asked him how dare he do such an act.
