"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys unprecedented popularity and personality not only in India but also globally because of his impeccable personality and integrity," Mishra wrote. He asserts that "the fight against the deep-rooted ecosystem of corruption" is the prime factor behind the prime minister's "ever-increasing popularity".
The ambassador defended the Prime Minister by writing that Modi "does not belong to an elite political family and his personal life inspires millions of ordinary people in India and other developing countries", and even called for the expulsion of the Congress ambassador, who said the ambassador was helping the party.
It is dated April 11, titled 'Irish Times view of Indian election: Modi tightens grip'. It is written thus.
In its editorial, The Irish Times alleged that "Modi has destroyed opposition parties and freedom of expression and that India's democratic credentials have been "seriously tarnished" as a result of these actions. "Most recently, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi's chief minister since 2015, was arrested in connection with a liquor scam. He is currently in jail. ,” it says. "India's largest opposition party, the Congress, has seen millions of bank accounts frozen by the tax authority and its ability to campaign," wrote the Irish Times. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denies any role in the crackdown, adding that "95 percent of political cases are filed against the opposition." Hungary's Viktor Orban ...and it ended up connecting Modi's politics with European leaders like Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan."
The rejoinder article of the Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, came in response to this insulting article. But Indian government sources say the article has not been approved by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or any government agency.
The Congress party, which sought to oust Mishra, slammed the article as insulting. The Congress party blamed the ambassador for his "unprofessional" behaviour of openly attacking opposition parties in a foreign country. The fact that the envoy is actually a career diplomat “makes his comments all the more embarrassing, insulting and completely unacceptable. He has actually violated service rules and should be sacked immediately," the Congress leader tweeted.
Defending the Government of India is one thing and is to be expected. But to attack Opposition parties openly in thus manner like a party apparatchik is not expected from an Ambassador even if he be a political appointment.
