The world is about to witness a rare solar eclipse; April 8, 2024: Daytime equivalent to twilight phenomenon: Scientists

Scientists say that the world is about to witness a rare solar eclipse. On April 8, 2024, the phenomenon of daylight equaling dusk will take place. This phenomenon is more likely to occur in parts of North America.

People across North America will be able to see the total on Monday, as the total solar eclipse is set to stretch across the continent from Mexico to the eastern tip of Canada.

What is this solar eclipse?

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely covers the sun and only the outer ring of the sun, known as the corona, is visible.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking some or all of the Sun's rays from reaching the Earth. This phenomenon is a cosmic event and the Moon must be in proper alignment for the Sun, Moon and Earth to cast a shadow on our planet. When this happens, the moon casts two types of shadows.

  • One that shows a solar eclipse causes a partial solar eclipse, which covers only part of the sun.
  • Another - and the most impressive - is called a total solar eclipse, in which the Sun is completely covered by the Moon, except for a halo visible in the sky. That means the day will appear to be dusk. Also, stars may be seen during that day.

Solar eclipses are not that rare - in fact, two to four occur per year. But the chances of seeing a total solar eclipse are very rare. Earth is huge and most of it is covered by oceans. Most of the time, humans cannot see it directly.

But on average, a total solar eclipse occurs in an area only once every 100 years. The longest solar eclipse will be visible over the Pacific Ocean in 2150. It is estimated that this will be the longest total solar eclipse in 50 years.

This total solar eclipse will extend from Mexico through parts of the United States and into Canada. Experts say that during the solar eclipse, parts of North America will be dark and will experience twilight-like light. About 32 million people will be able to see the solar eclipse with the naked eye, lasting up to 7.5 minutes.

Hundreds of events are planned for April 8 for eclipse watchers to get outside, look up at the sky and catch this rare astronomical phenomenon.

It is also believed to be the longest period in the last 50 years. That is a rare long period. The longest solar eclipse will be visible over the Pacific Ocean in 2150. That means we have to wait for 126 years
